Rosemary Cottage

Rosemary Cottage

Rosemary Cottage was constructed in 1913 for Rose Mary Byrne, the only surviving child of Brooklyn Physician, Dr. John Byrne. Rose and her mother moved to Asheville in search of 'healthy surroundings.' Following the death of her mother, Rose commissioned architect Charles Parker (who later designed the Grove Arcade in downtown Asheville) to design seven cottages for her Sunset Terrace community. Only six cottages were completed. For more information about Rose Byrne and her life in Asheville, see, Rose M. Byrne and The Cottages of Sunset Terrace, by Joe Franklin.
